Bed Bugs and alcohol: does alcohol kill bed bugs?
Rubbing alcohol, 70% Isopropyl alcohol along with 91% alcohol can be used effectively to remove large bed bug infestations. Expert entomologists recommend the utilization of Isopropyl alcohol in concentrations that are higher when dealing with bed bugs while most of these sprays can do the trick. In terms of the security of rubbing alcohol can be involved, one needs to consider the flammability of those sprays. Alcohol is highly flammable and it's best to advise all residents of the building where such a bed bug treatment is in progress. Also, alcohol can be highly abrasive on certain surfaces and fabrics, which means you must ensure avoiding its use on them.

Outstanding top features of 70% alcohol for bed bugs - Less expensive, easily accessible, safer flammability levels. On the downside, they may be more prone to evaporation when the bottle is left uncapped.

Conspicuous features of 91% isopropyl alcohol - This dries faster on account of their lower water content, and also the rate of evaporation WOn't alter the concentration of alcohol in the sprays. Also, they are recognized to be a lot kinder on certain surfaces and stuff.

Unfortunately, it's harder to find a store taking the 91% Isopropyl alcohol than it's to get the ones that carry the 70% bed bug rubbing alcohol sprays. For all people of your pet kingdom, gender isn’t really as Hollywood films might have you think. Some guys stab at women with use “handcuff or spikes -like" products to prevent them escaping, others take women having a pointed “love to provide a sperm- substance. Some actually participate in penis wall, where hermaphrodites combat over who reaches stab at another first - genitals. These are types of sexual turmoil, which occur in the major force to increase copy.

It’s generally assumed that protection systems against such guys are types of opposition, which could really result in an exaggeration of those annoying characteristics. But curiously, a brand new research has unearthed that might not continually be the situation, atleast for bed bugs. By stabbing a pit in her stomach bed bugs fertilize the feminine, and researchers thought that women might develop self defense methods to avoid damage out of this painful experience. However, based on new study, women really choose for threshold methods, in the place of opposition, that makes it easier for that man to stab her. These interesting new results have already been printed within the Royal Society Interface's Diary.

Conflict is where the major and genetic interests of people of both sexes diverge. Which means that, under stress to increase exercise, some sexually reproducing bacteria might develop changes that purpose to improve copy in one single gender, but really decrease fitness within the different. Insemination is just a great illustration of the, where sharp needle-like is used by guys genitalia consequently climax inside women and to pierce. That is expensive towards the women since it leads to elevated threat of disease and immediate physical harm.

Types of conflict anticipate that women might develop defense methods or harder abdomens like a clearer penis, which may consequently result in the guys changing characteristics to combat these techniques, like a type of opposition. This leads to a arms ” that leads to quick exaggeration of characteristics, race. However, researchers questioned whether it may be good for the feminine to endure, instead of avoid, these characteristics, which wouldn’t need the man to develop counter-modifications. Threshold, as the total amount or fix of harm, is defined within this regard without hurting the prison.

If this really is accurate to discover, researchers examined insemination of bed bugs that were feminine by checking them with high powered laser microscopes. They discovered that the women held a rubber like flexible protein called resilin in the stomach that's probably to become pierced by males' region, although not elsewhere.

Curiously, they discovered a weight system is wasn’ted by this since less transmission pressure was necessary to break this elastic area when compared with the areas. Moreover, unlike various other resistance systems that are recognized, this area didn’t's structure appear to influence health or male success, and therefore modifications motivate the choice of guys with table-. Significantly, which means that threshold, although not opposition, opens both sexes in the major arms race that is persistent that conflict may generate.

You may not think of an animal like the bed bug of having a history, but this one does. In fact, it has been found that this is one of the strongest species of animals present on the Earth because of what it has accomplished.
While most humans would be okay with the bed bug being extinct this is anything but what is likely to happen over the next years.

A Look Back

Taking a look back, it can be found that the bed bug has been found in ancient writings. It is commonly believed that the bed bug has been around for thousands of years, probably as long as humans have inhabited Earth as well.
The bed bug was first called a pest in the Americas just as the colonists did. They traveled with them on board the 17th century. They came to the shipping vessels that were used by immigrants. With each new wave of colonists came a new wave of bed bugs.

The 1940′S and 1950′S

In the 1940′S and the 1950′S, the United States was using a product called DDT. This is known as the first type of pesticide that was used. It was first developed in the early period of World War II. Its purpose was to stop the spread of infectious diseases such as malaria and typhus by killing off the mosquitoes and other pests that helped to spread the disease.
DDT was used throughout the military but it was also used by everyday people as well. This allowed it to be used heavily and virtually everywhere in the United States readily. insecticide.
So, what does this have to do with the bed bug? DDT actually almost caused the extinction of the bed bug in North America. During the middle of the 20th century, it was hard to find a bed bug.

Are They Gone, Then?

Unfortunately for most people, the bed bug did not die out during this time period but over the last several decades has staged a come back that is large enough to cause them to re-infest many areas quickly. North America has seen a tremendous growth of bed bugs in the last ten or so years.
But, there is something different this time around …
DDT is no longer used today as a pesticide. It was banned from use, as were other products that are similar to it, as it was found to be dangerous not only for the bed bug and other pests but also to the human population itself.
This poses as bit of a struggle for those that are trying to treat bed bug infestations today. Many of the products that are used today are just no effective at treating these pests. In fact, the bed bug can be just as hard to treat and get rid of as that of the cockroach. guaranteed method to treat an infestation of bed bugs. In short, there is no

More Reasons

There are additional reasons that the bed bug has made somewhat of a comeback over the last few years. This reason has to do with the type of products being used to treat pests. Because of all the health risks of DDT, many products have a lower toxicity level than those that were once used.
They are also more of a gel based product. Pests are less likely to respond to the gels but have been shown to respond to the spray products that are again, not in use.
On top of all of these things, the bed bug has developed, big muscles, so to speak. In fact, the bed bug has learned to adapt to these insecticides and therefore they are almost immune to them. This is due to the fact that many of these pest control products were used so heavily to treat other insects that they have learned to just adapt to them.
In fact, today, there are no gel based insecticides that do actually have any effect on the bed bug. These are the most common types of insecticides that are used in the industry today.

If you suspect that you may have bedbugs, your bedroom is the best place to start your bed bug inspection. Your bed is ground zero if you have bed bugs. Even the cleanest homes can have them.

Gently inspect your mattress. Gently, because if you have bedbugs, moving slowly will not agitate them as much and you may have a chance to vacuum the bedbugs up.

Do a thorough inspection on the seams and folds of your mattress. Look for adult bedbugs – about the size of apple seeds – and the light-dark brown droppings and light brown cast skins of the nymphs.

Rips and tears in your mattress provide lots of hiding spaces for bedbugs. Remember that bedbugs are normally only active in the early hours of the morning (2–4 am) so the rest of the time the bedbugs look for good places to hide that are close to their next evening meal – you. Generally bedbugs don’t hide on the top of your mattress – too exposed. Bedbugs prefer to hide under the mattress, in the many hiding spots of the box spring and in cracks of the bed frame. They like to rest close to their next meal.

1 – How do you know if you have bedbugs? Just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean they’re not there. Look closely – bedbugs love to hide in the cracks and crevices associated with mattresses, cushions, pillows, bed frames, side tables and other structures. They are rarely seen out in the open. Also look for tell-tale signs of bedbug infestation such as specks of blood or feces on the linens, mattresses, bed frames, near baseboards or behind wallpaper.  When in doubt, call in a professional bedbug exterminator.
2 – What does a bedbug look like? Bedbugs generally have flat oval bodies, are reddish-brown in color and are similar in size to a dog tick. Bedbugs are sometimes described as appearing like an apple seed. Adult bedbugs range in size from 5-7 mm (<1/4 inch), while nymphs (juveniles) may be a small is 1.5 mm (1/16 of an inch). After feeding, they appear enlarged, or engorged, with blood. Adult bedbugs turn from more brown to more red in color, while the translucent nymphs may become bright red.”
3 – When/how do bedbugs bite? Bedbugs are attracted by warmth and carbon dioxide. If you are warm and breathing then you are a bedbug magnet. Bedbugs typically bite at night on exposed areas of skin such as the face, neck, hands, and arms. The bite itself is painless and usually goes undetected. Bedbugs inject anticoagulant (a blood thinner) as they feed which makes feeding easier for the bedbug and less detectable to you. Feeding usually takes 5-10 minutes.
4 – What do bedbug bites look like? Bedbug bites can look similar other insect bites such as mosquitos or fleas. Clues that suggest the presence of bedbugs include finding red, itchy bites upon awakening, especially if the bites line up in a row on the skin or cluster of 2-4. While some people develop a reaction immediately, others may take two to three days before a reaction becomes noticeable, and approximately 30% of people do not react to the bites at all. A bedbug bite can appear as a tiny puncture wound without a surrounding reaction, and can easily be missed. Other people have strong reactions, with large, red, raised and itchy welts. This is especially true if one is sensitive to other types of bug bites.
5 – Do bedbug bites require medical treatment? Bedbug bites do not typically require treatment. Clean the bite sites with soap and water and avoid scratching to prevent infection. If secondary infection occurs it should be managed with antibiotics as appropriate. Progressive swelling, warmth, tenderness, and sometimes fever may be signs of secondary infection. When in doubt, consult your doctor. In general, the most common complaints of itching.
6 – Are bedbug bites dangerous? Unlike mosquitoes and ticks, bedbugs are not associated with disease transmission. While some pathogens have been detected in and on bedbugs such as hepatitis B, bedbugs have not been found to transmit disease.
7 – What are other effects of having bedbugs? Some people experience anxiety, sleeplessness, and unease as a result of having had bedbugs. Bedbug infestations are understandably significant psychological stressors, and some people may experience sleeplessness as they worry about bugs biting them or their family members. People have been known to self-isolate, avoiding family and friends out of concern for spreading the infestation. They may also be avoided by friends or others in the community, or find they have problems at work. As a result, victims of bedbug infestations may experience moderate to severe levels of stress, anxiety, and depression and should seek treatment as required.
8 – Should I reach out to bedbug professionals? Bedbugs are notoriously difficult to eradicate. We suggest getting professional help such as exterminators or bedbug sniffing dogs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorses that appropriate control of bedbug infestation requires an experienced pest management professional and recommends that victims be advised against attempting control measures themselves.

The first and most important thing to remember is do not panic. Bedbugs may be expensive and a pain to deal with, but they are not dangerous to you. Bedbug bites do not transmit disease. The main risk of bedbug bites is itching and infection caused by scratches.

Here is what to do if you suspect you have bedbugs:
Observe the Nature of the Bites
Bedbug bites typically appear in clusters of 3. You may hear this referred to as the “breakfast, lunch & dinner” pattern.

     Appropriately Treat Bite Locations
Wash the bedbug bite locations with mild soap and water. Pat dry and do your best not to scratch. If necessary, use anti-itch cream. If you are the sort of person that has significant reactions to insect bites, consider taking an oral allergy pill such as Claritin or Benadryl to reduce your body’s reaction to the bites. When in doubt, consult with your doctor.

    Don’t Panic
Relax. Do some research – have any bedbugs been reported in your building? Check out your building or any recent hotels you have stayed at on apartment-rental-ratings.com and bedbugregistry.com
It is a good idea to call a professional exterminator to assess your situation and confirm the presence of bedbugs.  Consider also paying a visit to your doctor to confirm that the marks you have are in fact bedbug bites.

     Remove and Wash Bedding
DO NOT spread your bedbug infestation by moving your bedding onto another bed or by placing it on the floor or a nearby chair! Very gently – so that you don’t scatter any bedbugs or loosen any bedbug eggs – remove all bedding and place it in plastic bags for transport to laundry facilities. Wash on high heat with a borax based soap. Dry on the highest setting possible for at least one hour.

Check Your Mattress and Box Spring for Bedbugs
Carefully check all edges and folds for blood spots, bedbugs, cast skins or droppings. Vacuum the mattress carefully focussing on all edges, stiching and and handles. Remember to first remove brush heads from vacuum hose so that you do not spread eggs around. Put the vacuum bag in plastic bag, seal it, and immediately put in an outside garbage container.

     Create a Bedbug-Free Zone
Apply diatomaceous earth and double sided sticky tape to your bed posts to stop bedbugs from traveling in and out of your bed via the bedlegs. Consider purchasing insect-interceptors for under the bed posts. Pull your bed a few inches from the walls so that the bed legs are the only route for bedbugs attempting to travel to & from the bed. Cover your mattress and box spring with bedbug-proof mattress covers. Diatomaceous Earth will last up to 6 months. Re-apply around bedpost after each floor washing or vacuuming. Bedbugs are mostly active at night. If you have them, they will be hiding as close to your bed as they can get. Don’t let your bedding touch the floor – especially while you sleep. They may attempt to climb up it.

When in doubt, consult with your doctor and a pest control specialist.

Because bed bugs generally try to hide from humans, many people get the erroneous idea that they are nocturnal by nature. While bed bugs do tend to be most active after dark, this is because their prey (you) is asleep and stationary at night. Merely turning on a light will not send them scurrying or prevent them from biting you.

Bed bugs can also hide in places other than your bedroom. Couches and overstuffed chairs are provide them with cover as well. Because they inject a numbing agent into your skin when they bite it, bed bugs can feed on your during the day while you are simply watching television or during the day when you nap. They use your body heat and the carbon dioxide that you exhale to locate you whenever they need to feed on your blood.

Identification
• Eggs are pearly white and only 1mm long.
• First stage immature bugs are pale in color and somewhat translucent.
• Adults are roughly ¼" in length and reddish brown in color.
• Females can lay 3 - 7 eggs per day.
• Eggs hatch after 6 - 10 days.
• Bed bugs are mostly inactive between blood meals and can often be located in their hiding places.
• Bed bugs are very resilient and can survive up to a year without a blood meal.

Bed bugs prefer to hide close to where they feed, like beds, but have been documented to travel 100-150 feet to obtain a blood meal, so it is unlikely to diminish an infestation by leaving an area unoccupied.
Although they do not have nests, bed bugs gather in areas that can be marked by dark spotting and staining of dried excrement. Eggs, shells, brownish molted skins of nymphs and the bugs themselves will be present.
